Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) was called the greatest sartirist in the English language. He was one most politically and socially influential writers of the 18th century. Jonathan Swift was from Anglo-Irish parents in Dublin, Ireland. He was not from a weatlhy family, but he attended and graduated from the Trinity College which was very popular at that time. He became the secretary to a retired diplomat. And then, he was ordained as an Anglican Priest.

In 1695, he became a satirist where his two first works were The Battle of the Books and A Tale of a Tub which were an acerbic style. At the beginning, his works were anonymous. So, people recognized him with his vicious and witty political writing. His most famous publications were A Modest Proposal, Gulliver's Success, and A Tale of a Tub.
